Rivermark and the Community

Two Rivermark employees volunteering at the Oregon Food Bank.

Rivermark not only strives to give back to our members, but we also strive to make a difference for those in the 11 communities we serve. By offering paid Volunteer Time Off, we empower our employees to go out and make a difference in our community.

Here are just some of the events and causes Rivermark has been involved with over the past few years:

Rivermark Community Fund

Established in February 2016 with an initial Credit Union contribution of $100,000, the purpose of the Rivermark Community Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation is to provide grants to local nonprofit organizations that fit our mission to create sustainable, affordable, fair, and equitable housing within the communities we serve.

Learn about our grant recipients and how you can help donate to the fund.

Rivermark Golf Tournament

Each year, with the exception of last year due to the pandemic, the Rivermark. Golf Tournament the Rivermark Golf Tournament raises money for the Rivermark Community Fund. In 2019, the tournament raised over $39,000 thanks to generous support from vendors, sponsors and players. Learn More.

Rebuilding Together

In 2020, we provided a $20,000 grant to Rebuilding Together for their important work in Portland and Washington County. Rebuilding Together provides critical home repairs, accessibility modifications, and important improvements at no cost for low-income homeowners. They focus on underserved populations and target repairs to address key health and safety hazards. The grants provided by the Rivermark Community Fund will support their year-long projects for local families and individuals in need of assistance.

KGW Great Food Drive

The 2020 KGW Great Food Drive achieved the highest donation weight yet, with a whopping 3.6 million pounds of food donated! Thanks to generous support we helped raise a record 2,574,608 pounds of food which translates to over 2.1 million meals. Rivermark staff and members contributed $4,801 and a dozen barrels of food during the March event.

We also donated an additional $10,000 to the Oregon Food Bank this year, as the pandemic and economy caused a widespread surge in need for food assistance.

JOIN PDX was the recipient of our 2018 Winter Warmth Drive, and we are excited to donate to them in 2019, too! Be on the lookout for this three-week drive beginning late October.

Doernbecher Children's Hospital

Since 1983, members have helped Rivermark raise more than $500,000 to help fund critical treatments, equipment, research and charitable care for Doernbecher. Doernbecher is recognized as one of America's leading children's hospitals and offers the region’s broadest range of pediatric treatments.

If you would like to donate to Doernbecher, you can do so on their website or by calling 503.294.7101.

Oregon Food Bank

Rivermark employees regularly volunteer their time at the Oregon Food Bank. The Community Affairs committee organizes groups of volunteers to participate in packing food for families in the area. The goal of the food bank is to eliminate hunger in Oregon by providing meals to families in need, as well as tackle the root causes of hunger in our region. You can volunteer to help or donate directly on the OFB website.

Northwest Cherry Festival

Each year Rivermark sponsors the Children's Court at the Northwest Cherry Festival in The Dalles. Photo contest entries dropped off at the branch result in the crowning of Mr. Royal Andy and Miss Royal Ann. Winners earn a place in the Cherry Festival Parade.

The Children’s Book Bank

Since 2014, Rivermark has supported Children's Book Bank, a local organization that collects and distributes books to children who might not otherwise have books of their own at home. Each year, members and staff collect books, while Rivermark staff volunteer to clean up donated books.

You can donate on the Children's Book Bank website.

New Seasons Community Loan Fund

Rivermark has helped over 250 New Seasons employees through hardship situations. New Seasons staff elects to contribute $1 per pay period to a fund specifically reserved to assist fellow employees in need. This pool of voluntary donations is collected into a Rivermark business account and used by New Seasons management to award low-interest share secured hardship loans. The fund continues to grow as payroll deposits are made and as loans are repaid.

Financial Beginnings

For years Rivermark has partnered with Financial Beginnings, an organization dedicated to providing financial education to youth. Rivermark staff volunteer to use their career experience and personal knowledge to teach students the basics of Banking, Budgeting, Investing, Credit, and Risk Management.

South Wasco County Library

Rivermark challenged other businesses in the Maupin community to contribute to the New Southern Wasco County Library Campaign. Rivermark led the way with a $7,500 donation and inspired other businesses in the area to donate over $60,000 to the cause. The library has raised over $125,000 for a new facility.
