Overdraft Options

Simple Solutions. Easy To Set-Up.

Mistakes happen. That’s why Rivermark offers easy to set-up overdraft protection options to provide a safety net for the occasional ‘bounced’ check or having a debit card transaction declined. Typically, you will pay a $30 fee for a “bounced” or “non-sufficient funds” check that is returned unpaid to a merchant. On top of that, the merchant may charge you a processing fee. Using Overdraft Protection and Courtesy Pay options can save you the costs of multiple fees.

Overdraft Transfers

We can link your savings or credit card/credit line to cover Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) or when your account balance is unavailable due to funds held for debit card transactions, checks held under our Funds Availability Policy, or direct deposits not yet available for withdrawal. There is no fee to transfer available funds from savings or to advance available funds from your Rivermark Visa or line of credit. Daily interest will accrue on the amount advanced to cover an overdraft from your Visa or line of credit.

To set this up, log into Online Banking, select Account Options from the More menu and click Overdraft Protection. On the mobile app, select Overdraft Protection from the More menu.

Courtesy Pay

Once you have set up Overdraft Protection (as described above) and have met initial eligibility requirements (as described in your Membership & Account Agreement) our Courtesy Pay service is automatically activated on your checking account (Opportunity Checking not eligible). If you write a check or authorize an ACH transaction and Overdraft Transfer cannot cover the items, Courtesy Pay may pay the transaction for you so it does not "bounce." A $30 fee is assessed each time Courtesy Pay is used.* We strive to pay items to help you avoid more costly merchant fees.**

Debit Card Courtesy Pay

Debit Card Courtesy Pay is an additional form of overdraft protection that's available to help cover your Visa Debit Card transactions.** If for whatever reason, funds are not available in your checking account at the time you make a Visa Debit Card transaction - for example, at the grocery store - Debit Card Courtesy Pay can help cover your transaction so your purchase is not declined. Debit Card Courtesy Pay is available on Free Checking Plus accounts as long as you have established Overdraft Protection and have met eligibility requirements for Courtesy Pay (as described in your Membership & Account Agreement).

  • There is no fee to enroll in Debit Card Courtesy Pay on your account – even if it's never used.
  • Your account will be assessed $30 each time Debit Card Courtesy Pay is used.*

To set this up, log into Online Banking, select Account Options from the More menu and click Debit Card Courtesy Pay. On the mobile app, select Debit Card Courtesy Pay from the More menu.

*A fee may be imposed for covering overdrafts created by check, debit card withdrawal, ATM withdrawal, or other electronic means.

**Courtesy Pay is a discretionary service and we reserve the right not to pay Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) items even if we’ve paid them before. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your account is not in good standing, if you are not making regular deposits, or you have too many overdrafts. We reserve the right to require immediate repayment of an overdraft. Our Opportunity Checking account is not eligible for this service.
