Not only does Rivermark strive to give back to our members, but we also strive to make a difference for those in our community. Rivermark is proud to serve 11 counties and is fully committed to initiatives that help those living in those communities.
Here are just some if the events and causes Rivermark has been involved with over the past few years.
The Children’s Book Bank Sponsor – This organization collects and distributes books to children who might not otherwise have books of their own at home. Rivermark joined forces with New Seasons, The Portland Trailblazers, and Portland Public Schools to collect children's books during the first annual Book Harvest. Rivermark committed to matching $0.10 per book donated, up to 25,000 books.
Riverfest – Rivermark was a proud sponsor of Riverfest 2013; Maupin’s signature community event on the banks of the Deschutes River. This year, Rivermark matched dollar-for-dollar all money raised at the Silent Auction. All proceeds went to the South Wasco County School District for the purchase of Library books. The generous bidding of this year's attendees combined with Rivermark's match of the winning bids resulted in a grand total of $5,550 raised.
Cutest Baby Contest – Rivermark partnered with K103 and ClearChannel to sponsor the 2013 Portland’s Cutest Baby contest. Anyone could submit a photo and be entered to win a photo shoot from Portland Family Magazine and a $1,000 savings account from Rivermark! Congratulations Sophia!
Pioneer Century Ride Sponsor – More than 1,300 cyclists, including Rivermark employees, participated in the Pioneer Century ride. The route began at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby and traversed through idyllic farmland on the ascend to Kokel Corner and descent through forests of firs on the way toward Scotts Mills.
Northwest Cherry Festival – Rivermark sponsored the Children's Court at the 2013 Northwest Cherry Festival in The Dalles. Entries in the photo contest resulted in the crowning of Mr. Royal Andy and Miss Royal Ann. Winners were announced at the Lip Sync Contest and received a gift from Rivermark, a gift card from JC Penney, and a place in the Cherry Festival Parade.
National Credit Union Youth Week – Rivermark ran a special promotion on Facebook and Twitter in April offering a $10 iTunes gift card to new GO! Money or Dollar Dog youth accounts. We gave away 11 gift cards.
School Savers Program – A unique partnership with Nancy Ryles and Scholls Heights Elementary School. Rivermark donates $25 for every new savings account and up to $5 in matching deposits. Over the past two years, Rivermark has contributed nearly $8,000 to these two schools, which can earn up to $10,000 annually. It’s a huge hit with teachers, parents and kids. Staff pick-up deposits the first Wednesday of every month.
Annual Dogs For Doernbecher – The weather was perfect and the support from our members, employees, and communities led to a total of $3,385 raised for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. The average amount raised per branch in 2013 increased by about 10% over 2012.
Community Loan Fund – Over the past 6 years, Rivermark has helped over 250 New Seasons employees through hardship situations. New Seasons staff elects to contribute $1 per pay period to a fund specifically reserved to assist fellow employees in need. This pool of voluntary donations is collected into a Rivermark business account and used by New Seasons management to award low-interest share, secured hardship loans. Employees have used the money for financial burdens connected to such things as car accidents, surgery, dental issues, drug/alcohol treatment, birth/adoption, unexpected loss of a lease or home eviction, car/home repairs, death in the family and care of an elderly parent. The fund continues to grow as payroll deposits are made and as loans are repaid. The program has helped many participants establish or reestablish credit.
JDRF – Over 40 Rivermark employees volunteered their time to raise $4,967 at the 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes at Oaks Amusement Park. Over the past 6-years, Rivermark has helped raise over $50,000 and has been acknowledged as a leading fundraising organization for the local JDRF chapter.
Don’t Tax My Credit Union – Rivermark helped the NWCUA oppose 3 legislative bills put forth by the Oregon Banker’s Association. Our efforts resulted in over 1,400 Rivermark members contacting their legislators. An amazing show of credit union member support!
Financial Beginnings – Starting in 2014, Rivermark is partnering with Financial Beginnings, an organization dedicated to providing financial education to youth. Rivermark volunteers will use their career experience and personal knowledge to teach students the basics of Banking, Budgeting, Investing, Credit, and Risk Management.
