New Overdraft Rules for Debit Cards

Overdraft Opt In

New Rules Now in Effect

Effective August 15, 2010, new government regulations require us to obtain your "Opt-In" consent to provide a service called Courtesy Pay  on your ATM and one-time debit card transactions.

When you opened your checking account, we automatically provided Courtesy Pay. This is a discretionary service where we may pay an item that overdraws your account.  Courtesy Pay saves you the possible embarrassment of a declined transaction or costly merchant fee.

How To Opt-In

To opt in to Courtesy Pay on your ATM and one-time debit card transactions, please complete the online form or call 503.626.6600 or 800.452.8502.

Please note:

  • Business accounts are exempt from the regulation and do not need to opt in.
  • If you previously opted in but wish to opt out, you may do so by clicking on the "opt in now" button above and completing the form or by calling the numbers above.

Five Tips To Avoid Overdrafts

1. Sign up for Overdraft Protection.

Call us today to be sure your accounts are set up in the way that works best for you.

2. Check your balance often.

Our phone number is located on the back of your debit card. Before you make a purchase, check your balance 24/7 by calling Telephone Teller or logging in to Online Banking.

3. Track your spending.

Use a check register to write down every transaction on your account. Remember, outstanding transactions won't be included when you call to check your balance. Only a well-kept check register can reflect your true balance at any given time.

4. Sign up for Email Alerts in Online Banking.

You'll automatically receive an email notice when your balance goes below an amount you specify.

5. Sign up for payroll deduction or automatic transfer to fund your savings account.

Even $10 a pay day can help you avoid an overdraft.
